In the Convenience Category Team, we are responsible for partnering with categories to deliver a market-winning selling proposition across Sainsbury’s Local stores. We set the strategic direction and manage delivery of product ranges, value credentials and propositions that best support our varying customer base, giving customers’ a reason to shop with us time and time again.

We are a team of strategic thinkers who have a keen eye for analysing performance and are passionate about Sainsbury’s Local customers. We are collaborative, highly cross-functional and use our channel expertise to build an ambitious category plan with the wider trading team which aims to drive channel sales, volume, and profit ahead of our competitive set and keeps the customer at the heart of what we do.

As the Convenience Category Partner, you will partner with cross functional teams of categories within the Fresh/Grocery business units. In conjunction, there will be a key role to play on value, working with the Category Teams and alongside the Convenience Category Planning to ensure we are well set up throughout the year across both value reality and value perception. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and delivers the Convenience Category plans
  • Forges strong working relationship with category teams and directly links into categories to gain buy-in of selling strategies and make them happen 
  • Builds an understanding of designated categories performance and works with category, suppliers, and insights teams to optimise range to match customer base
  • Seeks timely feedback across key stakeholders and amends plans appropriately
  • Project manages the end-to-end customer proposition from conception into store
  • Proactively reviews range performance, sharing with key stakeholders and iterating plans as necessary
  • Shares performance insight with Value and Propositions team to collectively build plans to address performance opportunities beyond ranging
  • Keeps Commercial Lead updated on plans and performance for designated categories
