What you'll do
As the Group Carbon Manager at Sainsbury's, you will play a vital role in developing and implementing strategies to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency across the organisation. You will be responsible for managing and communicating the Group energy efficiency and carbon reduction programmes, identifying opportunities for innovative technologies to support capital projects, and ensuring compliance with external reporting requirements related to carbon and energy. You will propose, manage and communicate the Group energy efficiency and scope 1 & 2 carbon reduction programmes to support the business targets to reduce carbon emissions in line with externally committed Net Zero metrics. You will also be responsible for annual and half year Greenhouse Gas reporting, including Annual report and Plan For Better report content. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, you will drive the electrification of transport, influence policy makers, and provide strategic advice to the Operating Board on carbon-related matters. Your role will also involve managing capital investment programmes, maintaining data accuracy for compliance submissions, and monitoring progress towards achieving sustainability targets. Additionally, you will lead and support the personal development of the Energy Analyst and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure alignment with Sainsbury's Supplier Management Framework.
Who you are
As the Group Carbon Manager, you are an experienced professional with a strong background in energy and environmental legislation, specialising in driving carbon reduction strategies and managing renewable energy initiatives. Your ability to align objectives with business goals, influence stakeholders, and drive performance savings targets demonstrates your strategic mindset and leadership capabilities.
With extensive experience of cross-functional collaboration, financial management, carbon reporting and strategic decision-making, you play a critical role in shaping and executing the company's carbon reduction strategy while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and sustainability.
