Why join us

Joining Sainsbury's as the Technical Safety Manager offers the opportunity to play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of customers and colleagues across the UK and Northern Ireland. As a valued member of the Group Safety & Insurance team, you will provide expert guidance on technical safety matters, contributing to the development of robust safety management processes and driving continuous improvement initiatives. With a focus on collaboration, innovation, and compliance, this role allows you to make a meaningful impact by safeguarding against risks and ensuring a safe environment for all, while being supported by a dedicated team and access to ongoing training and development opportunities aligned with your career aspirations.

What you'll do

In the role of Technical Safety Manager at Sainsbury's, you will be responsible for providing expert technical safety support across all areas of the organisation, focusing on aspects such as building structure, fixed equipment like lifts and escalators, store design, noise, legionella, asbestos, DSE, work equipment, and PPE. Your key responsibilities will include collating and interpreting data to identify trends, recommending measures to reduce harm and enhance compliance, and identifying opportunities for improvement and cost reduction. Working collaboratively with various teams, including Sainsbury's Property Division and FM contractors, you will ensure that safety compliance levels are maintained through design, installation, and maintenance processes, while conducting on-site risk assessments and supporting the corporate valued behaviours principles.

Who you are

As a Technical Safety Manager, you are a dedicated professional with a strong background in occupational health and safety, particularly in technical safety aspects such as building structures, fixed equipment, and safety management processes. With your NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent qualification, you demonstrate high standards of forward planning, risk management, and organisational skills, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and minimising the risk of harm to customers and colleagues. Your ability to collaborate cross-functionally, interpret data, and provide expert advice on technical safety topics makes you a valuable asset in supporting the development and implementation of safety initiatives to enhance the overall safety culture within the organisation.
