Sainsburys Tech - Tech Device Analyst (Associate Engineer)

What You'll Do:

As a Tech Device Analyst, you’ll play a key role in supporting over 150,000 devices used by our colleagues and customers - helping to make Sainsbury’s a great place to work and shop. These devices range from end-user computing equipment, phones, tablets, digital displays, printers, and voice solutions to handheld scanners.

You’ll be part of a team responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving hardware solutions across our stores, depots, and store support centres.

Understanding what devices, we have in our estate and how they’re being used is critical to how Tech supports our 200,000 colleagues. Having accurate, insightful reporting enables us to manage devices efficiently, identify usage trends, and encourage better behaviours around device care—ultimately saving the business both time and money.

Working within the Devices Engineering team, you’ll use device management tools to analyse trends and generate insights. Your findings will be shared across the engineering team and with stakeholders in various operational units, so clear, concise communication is essential.

In collaboration with Technology Managers, desktop support teams, installation services, and service teams, you’ll also help build a comprehensive understanding of stock levels. This supports critical services, ensures assets are available for new stores and new starters, and allows us to scale capacity when needed.

You’ll be responsible for the ongoing review and optimisation of how we manage our devices—factoring in new device types, locations, and usage patterns, while also helping to standardise models where appropriate.

Additionally, you’ll support teams with billing, quotes, and a variety of operational reports.

In essence, you’ll be our data master - a device detective who understands the story behind the data, drives insights, and empowers stakeholders to make fast, informed decisions.

Who You Are:

We use a variety of technologies here, so you’ll need to be open to learning new tools and techniques. Just as importantly, we want you to be yourself—analytical, curious, and unafraid to challenge the status quo. You’ll be a role model for best practices, championing a customer-centric mindset and demonstrating a passion for finding creative ways to solve problems. You’ll work with a range of teams and third parties, so a proactive, can-do attitude is essential.

You should be confident using tech tools, including Microsoft Office and various reporting systems. Advanced Excel skills are essential, and you’ll be expected to demonstrate proven experience. You’ll be responsible for reviewing data, identifying and documenting trends, and supporting the team in striving for excellence.

You’ll use your initiative to spot opportunities to simplify how we work and will have the drive to investigate issues thoroughly and tackle challenges head-on.

An understanding of finance and operational costs is also important, along with the ability to suggest ways we can save money and reinvest in other areas of the business.

Essential Criteria:

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the use of complex formulas, pivot tables, and VBA scripting for automation.
  • Experience using Power BI to create interactive dashboards and generate insights from large datasets.
  • Working knowledge of Power Automate, with the ability to build flows that connect data sources, automate tasks, and streamline report generation workflows.
  • Strong data analytical skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into clear, business-friendly narratives.
  • Proven experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to manage IT hardware estates, ensuring effective communication of critical updates and seamless coordination across departments.
