What you'll do
As a Formulated Technical Manager at Sainsbury's, you will lead the management and delivery of all technical aspects of Sainsbury's Brand product and technical plans for the formulated product area, focusing on ensuring safe, legal, and high-quality products that meet our customer's needs and align with our Net Zero commitments.
You will work collaboratively with suppliers, product developers, trading, supply chain, and retail teams to drive the quality and technical agenda for your product area, overseeing the safety, legality, and quality of Sainsbury's brand products to maintain brand reputation and customer satisfaction. Your role will involve setting appropriate quality standards, managing accurate product information, conducting detailed investigations on product issues, and delivering on complaints reduction action plans, all while driving technical innovation and developing strategies to enhance product quality and drive sustainability through building robust supply chains.
Who you are
You are an accomplished professional with a strong background in technical roles within the supply base or retail, particularly in household categories or associated areas. With a degree in a relevant scientific subject and previous experience, you can demonstrate in-depth knowledge of technical and manufacturing requirements, regulations, and standards, ensuring the safe, legal, and high-quality delivery of Sainsbury's Brand products. Your proven track record in driving technical excellence, implementing successful policies, and managing supplier relationships showcases your ability to lead and deliver results with a customer-centric and commercial focus, while upholding the highest standards of quality and compliance.
Essential Criteria
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Materials Science.
- Proven previous experience in a technical role within the supply base or retail, ideally in household or related categories.
- Strong understanding of technical and manufacturing standards, including HACCP, BRC, GMP, SMETA, and supplier management frameworks.
- Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements, including REACH, CLP, Biocidal Products Regulation, Cosmetic Products Regulation, and other applicable EU or UK legislation.
- The ability to travel within the UK and overseas (depending on product area and supply base location)
