Please note, this role is based out of our London Store Support Centre & Home. Colleagues go into the office 2 days per week on average.

Joining Sainsbury's as the Head of Finance - Digital means becoming an integral part of a dynamic and competitive industry where Finance plays a crucial role in driving and protecting the business strategy. As a pivotal partner to the Digital Leadership Team, you will have the opportunity to influence key strategic and operational decisions, shape financial performance, and drive profitable growth in the Digital businesses, particularly focusing on Grocery Online and Marketplace operations. Supported by a collaborative and innovative environment, you will lead the end-to-end financial planning cycle, provide valuable insights, and challenge the business to make informed decisions that enhance performance and drive success.

What you'll do

You will act as the primary finance partner to the Digital leadership team, influencing key strategic and operational decisions to drive the financial performance of the Digital businesses, specifically focusing on Grocery Online (GOL) and Marketplace operations to drive growth, customer engagement and profitability. You will lead the financial planning cycle, provide accurate performance reporting, offer forward-looking insights for investments, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimise commercial outcomes. Your role will involve challenging existing strategic initiatives, identifying new opportunities, and driving improvements through ad hoc analysis and strategic decision-making. Additionally, you will be responsible for designing management reporting and ensuring effective utilisation of analytical resources to support business priorities and enhance overall performance.

Who you are

You are a Professional Qualified Accountant with a proven track record of strategic financial management and commercial acumen. Your leadership skills inspire and empower your team to achieve success, while your effective communication and influencing abilities enable you to partner with senior leaders and stakeholders to drive business decisions that optimise financial performance and drive profitable growth. With a focus on challenging the status quo, prioritising effectively, and implementing strong financial controls, you play a pivotal role in shaping the financial performance of the Digital business and ensuring alignment with the overall strategic objectives of the organisation.

Essential Criteria

  • Professionally qualified accountant - ACA, ACCA, or CIMA
  • Demonstrable experience of managing commercial relationships and influencing senior decision-makers
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including board-level, across varying degrees of financial and commercial understanding
  • Track record of maintaining robust financial controls and driving financial and commercial performance
  • Evidence of leading and developing teams, supporting colleagues in career progression and professional growth
