Sainsbury's Tech – Data Governance Analyst (Grade C4)

We’re looking for a Data Governance Analyst to join our growing Data Governance & Information Security Team at Sainsbury’s. You’ll work alongside, Data Owners, Data Protection Officers and the Chief information Security Officer

 

This role focuses on how Sensitive Commercial or Personal data is collected, held, processed and deleted through the data lifecycle for the Sainsbury’s Group.

 

You will need to ensure that all documentation relating to data processes are kept up to date and accurate at all times.  You will have a keen eye for detail and must be able to challenge stakeholders when information is unclear or incomplete. You must be confident to arrange and facilitate meetings as well as writing up detailed summaries and actions for the attendees. As a Data Governance Analyst, you should also keep up to date with the GDPR and other relevant legislation relating to personal data and identify the implications and subsequent actions.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Responsible to Chair Data Clinic. Review projects requests and establish what Data Governance processes need to be carried out
  • Represent Data Governance in key meetings, GDPR Transition Programme as well as maintaining adherence to the current data policies
  • Update and maintain accurately all documentation for Data Clinic
  • Review and approve the use of data across various business areas at Sainsbury’s Group, including key areas like access, security, transfer and retention
  • Identify current shortfalls and define action plans for projects, with support from the Business Data and Compliance Manager 
  • Maintain a full understanding of where data is used and held across the business and how changes to this will impact upstream and downhill systems as well as any third parties who process the data
  • Work closely with the Data Protection Officer’s and Operational Governance Team
  • Assist Business users to investigate data issues, taking responsibility for driving additional investigation through to resolution. Support the Data Protection Officers in responding to data incidents and ensure data incidents are accurately documented
  • Support the Business Data and Compliance Manager in shaping the Data Governance Clinic strategy
  • Arrange and deliver Training sessions across Sainsbury’s Group for colleagues based across the Sainsburys Group 
  • Support stakeholders and colleagues across the business with any ad-hoc queries relating to data
  • Update and report on Data KPIs on weekly / monthly basis. 
  • To be able to explain technical items in non-technical language to the business and vice versa.  These include any risks that have been highlighted by the Information Security team 
  • Support the Cookie Compliance Manager with all Sainsbury’s Group websites and applications to ensure that they are cookie compliant and help maintain the registry where all cookie information is documented.
  • Support with regular meeting with the CISO and DPO in the absence of the Cookie Compliance Manager
  • Deputies in the absence of the Cookie Compliance Manager in the Retail Governance Forum to ensure store activities that use Customer, Colleague or Highly Sensitive Commercial data has been approved by Data Governance including, Market Research, Competition and QR Codes
  • Keep abreast of changes to legislation and when changes do occur:
  • Review, identify implications and take subsequent actions
  • Inform the relevant Data Owners and stakeholders
  • Work with the Central Data Governance Team to incorporate any changes into current and future data policies

 

What We’re Looking for Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience of working with IT and business enabled change in a complex multi stakeholder environment
  • High level understanding of the current Data Protection Act and GDPR
  • Good understanding of Artificial Intelligence & Large Language models / tooling
  • Keen eye for detail and pay particular attention to inconsistencies or inaccuracies

 

Additional experience 

  • Ability to influence stakeholders across the business at all levels
  • Manage stakeholder expectation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Self-motivated and organised and can manage time effectively
  • Able to work under pressure and to deadlines, whilst maintaining very high levels of accuracy in particularly for data specifications and reporting
  • Able to proactively identify areas of opportunity and talk these Data Owner and other panel members 
  • Excellent level of relationship management skills with experience of engaging and involving non-technical teams in data stewardship and governance
  • Have experience in working in large organisations
  • Familiarity with SureCloud tool
