What you'll do

Working closely with the Senior Internal Communications Manager, you will play a pivotal role in delivering strategic, engagement, and change communications to varied and diverse audiences across Sainsbury’s Retail. You’ll ensure all communications align with our purpose and strategy, fostering trust, understanding and belief among colleagues. Your responsibilities will include crafting tailored communication plans, supporting leaders in driving regular face-to-face conversations, and delivering impactful messages on people change initiatives, retail transformation programmes and other projects. Collaborating closely with stakeholders across the business and the wider internal comms team, you will contribute to enhancing colleague engagement, customer service priorities, and overall business performance through effective communication strategies, channels and content.

Who you are

You are an experienced professional with a strong background in internal communications within fast-paced, complex, multi-site organisations, ideally with a deep knowledge of retail operations or within the consumer-facing sector. You have a proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities with ease, create and deliver communication plans, engage with diverse audiences, and drive strategic messaging that fosters colleague engagement and drives organisational change. With your excellent verbal and written communication skills, creativity, attention to detail, and proactive approach to problem-solving, you can demonstrate how you can play a vital role in shaping and delivering impactful communications that support Sainsbury's strategic objectives.

Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience in internal communications, preferably within retail or other multi-site, complex, consumer-facing organisation
  • Established track record of developing and delivering strategic communication plans that drive engagement and support business goals.
  • Demonstrable experience in stakeholder and project management, including managing multiple projects to competing deadlines, advising senior leaders, and influencing communication outcomes.
  • Evidence of success in communicating complex change and transformation initiatives to varied, difficult-to-reach internal audiences.
  • Strong writing, creative and editing skills, with the ability to take complex information and translate it into clear, engaging, easy-to-understand content under tight deadlines.
