What you'll do
As a Commercial Lawyer at Sainsbury's, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality legal support to businesses and functions across the Sainsbury's Group to enable strategic commercial agreements and procurement activities. As part of a wider team of lawyers in the Commercial Law team, your responsibilities will include pragmatic and timely advice to support Group objectives, continuous improvements in contract negotiations with key suppliers aligned with evolving business needs and the creation and delivery of precedents, processes and standards. Additionally, you will understand and stay abreast of emerging legal issues in technology and Artificial Intelligence, collaborate with stakeholders, and drive your ongoing personal development to enhance your legal expertise and effectiveness within the team.
Essential Criteria
- Qualified legal professional with demonstrable experience managing a range of commercial and technology contracts. While candidates with 3+ years post-qualification experience (PQE) are likely to have the skills needed for this role, we welcome applications from those with relevant expertise outside this range.
- Proven ability to deliver pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice grounded in contracting principles.
- Practical knowledge of SaaS, platform, and cloud-based agreements, including outsourcing and procurement contracts, with familiarity in areas such as liability, AI clauses, service levels, intellectual property, and data protection.
- Evidenced capability in drafting legal documents using clear, concise, and accessible language.
- Demonstrable ability to manage multiple priorities effectively within a collaborative team environment.
