Associate Data Analyst - Advanced SQL is essential (experience with Python, Snowflake, R, GitHub desirable) - London/Hybrid

What you’ll do:

As part of the Data & Analytics team, you will join the Commercial Analytics function, which plays a critical role in supporting the business across three key areas: Pricing & Promotion, Range, Cost Optimisation & Agriculture and Strategic Analytics.

As an Associate Analyst, you’ll play a key role in shaping data-driven decisions that impact millions of customers. In this role you will:

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders across Sainsbury’s Food, General Merchandise, and Clothing Commercial teams, fostering strong partnerships to drive aligned, data-informed decision-making.
  • Work closely with other Analytics & Engineering teams to streamline data access, creatively overcoming challenges and unlocking new opportunities.
  • Design and implement innovative solutions from ETL pipelines and statistical analyses to machine learning models and dynamic dashboards, that support strategic commercial decision making.
  • Explore and harness new data sources, generating fresh insights and actionable recommendations to tackle our most complex commercial challenges.
  • With a keen eye for detail and a passion for data storytelling, you will translate complex concepts into digestible narratives that inspire action.
  • The ability to partner brilliantly with the business to understand their problems and deliver value, applying commercial acumen and communicating/connecting in a compelling way.

Who you are

As an Associate Analyst within Sainsbury's Commercial Analytics team, you are a highly numerate professional with a keen eye for detail and a passion for leveraging data to drive strategic decision-making. With your strong SQL knowledge and analytical background, you excel in designing and implementing innovative solutions, from ETL pipelines to machine learning models, that provide actionable insights to address complex commercial challenges. Your brilliant communication skills, combined with your inquisitive mindset and ability to collaborate cross-functionally, allow you to translate complex concepts into compelling narratives that inspire action and deliver value to the business.

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrable proficiency in SQL is essential for data analysis and manipulation (experience with Python, Snowflake, R, GitHub, and Jira is advantageous).
  • Experience in delivering actionable insights that have led to measurable business change or impact.
  • Ability to translate complex data into clear, compelling narratives, evidenced through data storytelling or presentation work.
  • Educational degree or professional background in a numerate discipline, such as mathematics, statistics, or a related analytical field.
  • Great communication skills, having the ability to explain complex information in simple terms.
