Better still, the team around you will listen to your ideas and opinions, and you’ll have every chance to try something new. The sheer scale and complexity of our set-up means there’s always something else around the corner, and we’ll help and support you every step of the way. We’re trusted to get on with it. So get ready to make things happen here.

Why join us

Joining Sainsbury’s as Head of Asset Management (Supermarkets) & Investment is a unique opportunity to shape the performance and future of one of the UK’s largest and most complex retail property estates.

In this senior leadership role, you will lead the strategic management of our supermarket estate, using your expertise in asset management and property investment to drive value, protect performance and enable sustainable growth. Working closely with senior stakeholders and external partners, you will play a pivotal role in shaping asset and investment strategies that directly support the long-term success of the business.

Sainsbury’s offers a collaborative, fast-moving environment where judgement is trusted, ideas are valued, and the scale of the estate means the impact of your work is tangible and significant.

You will be contractually based at either our London / Coventry office, but will also spend time with our consultancies across London & Birmingham, as well as time working from home - the exact weekly balance between locations is not yet determined but will be blended according to business needs. We support hybrid working and flexible arrangements.

What you'll do

You’ll lead the team responsible for the strategic asset management of the Sainsbury’s supermarket estate, working closely with the Director of Estates & Investment to drive the performance of the wider Estates & Investment function.

You will be accountable for minimising property costs through proactive asset management strategies, supporting the acquisitions team on new supermarket acquisitions, and overseeing third-party estates management to ensure the effective delivery of services critical to the business. Alongside this, you will manage Sainsbury’s property investment structures, providing expert insight into the property investment market and shaping ownership strategies that enhance portfolio value.

Building strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including institutional landlords, will be essential to support growth projects and strategic initiatives. Ultimately, you will own and deliver property-related decisions, applying sound commercial judgement to drive value and support Sainsbury’s overall property strategy.

Who you are

You are a senior property professional with extensive experience in strategic asset management and property investment. You bring a strong commercial acumen and financial proficiency, with a proven track record of leading teams to deliver value across complex, multi-site estates.

You are confident influencing senior stakeholders, negotiating with external partners and making sound, evidence-based decisions in a regulated environment. Strategic, dynamic and adaptable, you are comfortable balancing long-term asset stewardship with near-term business priorities.

Essential criteria

  • Extensive experience leading strategic asset management across a large, multisite property estate, including making evidence-based decisions on lease events, tenure optimisation and investment structures.
  • Proven experience of managing property investment activity, providing commercial insight into investment markets and shaping ownership strategies to maximise portfolio value.
  • Evidence of influencing senior stakeholders and negotiating with external partners, to support commercial settlements and strategic outcomes.
  • Capability to lead and develop a team.
