About the team
Group Finance plays a critical role at the centre of the organisation, ensuring high quality financial reporting, robust governance, and compliance with external reporting requirements. Within this, the Financial Reporting team is responsible for all externally reported numbers, including the Annual Report and Interim Statement, and for owning Group accounting policies under IFRS. The team partners closely with senior stakeholders across the business, providing trusted technical expertise and supporting complex commercial and corporate activity in a fast‑moving environment.
More about the role
As Finance Manager – Technical Accounting, you will act as a technical accounting specialist within Group Finance, supporting the Head of Strategic Corporate Finance and Group Financial Reporting. The role provides expert advice on a wide range of accounting matters, including complex or unusual transactions, new commercial initiatives, and corporate activity, ensuring appropriate and compliant accounting treatment is identified and applied consistently across the Group.
On a day‑to‑day basis, you will prepare technical accounting position papers, own key accounting judgements and estimates, maintain complex accounting schedules and models, and contribute to the preparation of the Annual Report, Interim Report and Audit Committee papers. You will also play a key role in assessing, implementing and embedding new and emerging IFRS standards, as well as providing guidance and training to finance and non‑finance colleagues across the business.
More about you
You are a professionally qualified accountant with demonstrable experience operating in a technical accounting or financial reporting environment. You are confident interpreting IFRS requirements and translating technical guidance into clear, practical recommendations that support commercial decision‑making.
You are able to build effective working relationships with senior stakeholders through clear communication and well-reasoned judgement. You are comfortable managing multiple priorities, working to tight deadlines, and maintaining attention to detail while operating in a complex and fast-paced organisation.
Essential criteria
- Professional accounting qualification (ACA or equivalent), with demonstrable experience operating in a Group Finance, technical accounting, or financial reporting environment (Experience within Big 4 or Retail preferred)
- Demonstrable experience providing technical accounting advice and preparing accounting position papers under IFRS.
- Proven involvement in statutory financial reporting, including preparation or review of financial statements and supporting notes.
- Evidence of applying professional judgement to complex or non‑standard accounting transactions.
- Demonstratable ability to communicate technical accounting concepts clearly to finance and non‑finance stakeholders.
