Better still, the team around you will listen to your ideas and opinions, and you’ll have every chance to try something new. The scale and complexity of our business mean there’s always something new to learn, and we’ll support you every step of the way. We’re trusted to get on with it. So get ready to make things happen.
Why join us
Join our team at Sainsbury's as a Senior Procurement Manager and immerse yourself in a dynamic and challenging environment where you will have the opportunity to lead and manage the significant categories of Payments and Financial Services, with high complexity and impact. As a procurement professional, you will drive strategic sourcing initiatives, negotiate with key suppliers, and influence business strategy at senior levels, making a tangible impact on the organisation's success. With a focus on continuous improvement, leadership development, and fostering strong relationships, you will play a pivotal role in delivering value for Sainsbury's while enhancing your expertise and leadership capabilities in the procurement field.
What you'll do
You’ll own and lead categories of significant scale and complexity in an evolving and business-critical area, managing larger supplier spend profiles, and driving a clear and compelling end-to-end category plan that balances cost, quality, and risk. You will lead and manage categories with high business importance, independently executing category plans using strategic sourcing methodology to enhance Sainsbury's competitive advantage and deliver outstanding solutions. Your role will involve ensuring category plans align with Sainsbury's Procurement and Supplier Management Policy, managing direct reports, and leading cross-functional teams to drive accountability and deliver business change. Additionally, you will be accountable for managing senior-level primary stakeholder relationships, driving the strategic category agenda, and acting as a point of escalation for managing the risk and operational performance of strategic suppliers.
This category spans our Financial Services products, as well as Payments software and hardware across both in‑store and online channels, including payment acquiring and gateway solutions delivered by providers, and sourcing Pin Entry Devices (PEDs) for tills, petrol pumps and SmartCharge. The scope also covers payment propositions, such as Buy Now Pay Later and credit options, where you will undertake competitor analysis to ensure Sainsbury’s continues to meet and exceed customer expectations. Fraud management systems also sit within this remit, and a big focus of the role is risk management, ensuring we provide a safe and secure customer experience.
Who you are
You’re a strategic leader with a proven track record of delivering outstanding results through your high degree of commercial acumen and expertise in procurement. You excel in influencing others, managing complex tenders, and navigating dynamic and fast-paced environments with resilience and adaptability, making you a trusted source of insight and solutions within the Procurement Leadership team. Your experience in line management will be essential in fostering a collaborative and motivated team culture, enabling individuals to achieve their best and contribute to the wider success of the Procurement function. These categories are technical, complex and extremely fast-paced, so we’re looking for someone who is curious and innovative, and who is motivated by delivering easy, seamless and positive customer journeys.
It is an advantage if you have experience of payments systems/transactions/provider procurement in a large retailer, or Financial Services/Consumer Finance procurement experience, especially if you've managed supplier agreements for payments propositions (BNPL, interest-free credit) or online/in-store payments processing software/hardware.
