We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That’s waiting for you at Sainsbury’s. Corporate Services is made up of specialist teams, including Legal, Information Security, Safety & Insurance, and Company Secretary & Share Management. While each area is distinct, we’re all united by one thing: managing risk. That means identifying risks to the business, our people, stakeholders and shareholders, assessing their potential impact, and deciding how best to mitigate or accept them. What makes us different is the exposure we have to other specialisms. We don’t work in silos, and there are real opportunities to move laterally and grow your career. We also have an amazing leadership team - 50% women - and a genuine passion for Sainsbury’s as a brand and as a place to be. That’s what makes this somewhere you can truly belong.

About the team

Sainsbury’s Corporate Services division brings together Group Safety & Insurance teams who play a critical role in protecting our customers, colleagues and operations. This team works across Sainsbury’s, Argos, and our wider property estate to ensure robust safety standards are in place and consistently followed. As part of this collaborative and supportive environment, you’ll work closely with site teams, FM, and Property colleagues, helping to shape and influence fire safety practices across a diverse national portfolio.

More about the role

As a Fire Risk Assessor, you’ll play a key role in delivering and continuously improving the fire risk assessment programme across stores, depots, Local Fulfilment Centres, and support offices. You’ll spend the majority of your time conducting fire risk assessments on-site, ensuring compliance with corporate fire safety standards and identifying opportunities to reduce risk.

Alongside site-based work, you’ll review and validate assessments, provide practical recommendations, and support the implementation of fire safety initiatives. You’ll collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, offering advice and constructive challenge, and may also support fire incident investigations, producing clear reports with actionable outcomes.

More about you

You’ll bring a practical, solutions-focused approach, with the ability to interpret fire safety requirements and apply them effectively in a commercial environment. You’re comfortable working independently while managing a varied workload and adapting to changing business needs.

You build effective working relationships across functions and levels, using clear communication and influencing skills to support site teams in achieving compliance. You’ll also demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development and keeping your knowledge of fire safety standards up to date.

Essential criteria

  • Holds a Level 4 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment or can demonstrate commitment to achieving the qualification within an agreed timeframe.
  • Demonstrable experience conducting or supporting risk assessments and producing documented findings and recommendations.
  • Ability to interpret fire safety legislation or guidance and apply it within operational environments.
  • Proven capability to plan and manage own workload, including coordinating site visits and meeting programme deadlines.
  • Evidence of working collaboratively with stakeholders to implement risk mitigation actions or compliance improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills and have an ability to communicate fire risk and good fire safety practice to all relevant persons
